Writing

Stories are at the heart of journalism, usually expressed through writing. During my time on staff at the JHS Black & White, I have written a variety of stories from what it's like being in the spotlight as an athlete to the variety of diets that students follow.

1/1600: Cameron Miller

With a cup of coffee in hand, Cameron Miller ‘19 walked into his studio. He set the coffee on his desk and proceeded to get out his instruments. Recording on his computer, he sat down in front of his drums and played for a bit.

Taking Care of Business

The student section is empty, the turf untouched by cleats, and the stadium completely silent. It is three hours before gametime. Running back Jordan Rusch ‘20 sits in the locker room by himself in his usual spot, headphones in and beats turned up.

Burnt

Chris Yao ‘19 is one of many students experiencing burnout as the school year comes to a close. “I’m in an econ class,” Yao said. “I have 17 assignments that are overdue and the class ends in three days, so I should probably finish that soon. But I just don’t feel like doing it.”

Meditation Mondays

The wind blew hair in her face as Olivia Arnold ‘19 stepped through the front doors of the high school. While Arnold slowly made her way to first period physical education, all she could think about was the multiple tests that filled the day ahead of her.

More than a Headache

As Madeline Proudfoot ’20 sat in class, a sharp pain began to stab the top of her head. It was the beginning of her eighth-grade year and she had no idea what was going on.

Do Not Dis(h) the Diet

Although all diets share the common component of giving up certain foods and ingredients, students’ diets can range greatly from the restrictions they place on students to the motivation each student has for starting one.

Powder Puff

Last night the senior class of 2020 powderpuff team took the field once again, looking for a repeat. Due to last year’s highly controversial win, one thing that was not present were quarterback Maya McDermott’s cleats or rather any cleats for that matter.
